About

The history of Indian fashion can be dated back to the Vedic civilization, with evidence of the saree being one of the first fashion staples for women and men. Since then, fashion has evolved over the many changes, invasions, wars, and eras of Indian civilization. Presently, India is the second-largest textile and garment exporter in the world,  with dozens of different types of embroidery styles that vary by city.

As an Indian raised in the US, my perception of Indian fashion was heavily influenced by the Bollywood industry and the climate of culture in both India and the U.S. As I grew up, my love for the industry evolved but I was frustrated at the lack of coverage and focus on the fashion industry. Global publications like Vogue and Elle bridged the gap for fashion fans but provide a large-corporate view of the industry.

Enter: The Zari Print.

The goal of The Zari Print is to provide a new perspective on Indian fashion; one that is focused on breaking down the latest trends, recognizing emerging artists, and sifting through the history of Indian fashion.

Over the years, the focus of fashion has shifted away from the craftsmen, the designers, and the artists. The Zari Print aims to pivot that focus back to recognizing the artists behind the creations, the thought-process behind new lines, the effort put into launching a new brand, and the emerging fashion icons that deserve more appreciation.
